"It was a tough decision for my friend and I to choose hotel in Shanghai knowing the standard and rate in China can be quite different from other countries. We glad that we chose Grand Central despite some reviews said it has slow wifi. We had no problem with it and in fact even VPN works well for me. We love the fact that it is near Nanjing east station and it is very convenient (Family Mart is just behind the hotel, shopping district is just less than 5 minutes). It only cost us about RMB170 from Pudong airport to the hotel but it costs more from hotel to airport (RMB220).The only thing is we book the promo rate which is without breakfast, so can comment much on the food. Overall it was a pleasant stay. We will definitely go back if we are going to Shanghai again."

"We were staying in Shanghai for 2 nights and booked this service apartment after getting a good rate online. And it was one of the best hotels I've stayed in. Though a service apartment, it is no less than a 4 star hotel. Clean room, with washing machine, microwave, hot plate and a rice cooker. English speaking staff, great breakfast and great location. Just a 1-2 minutes walk away from MTR subway station. There is a shopping center right next to the hotel with KFC, Starbucks, a bakery, a noodle bar and local fruit shops around, this location is really really nice. I had my 3.5 year old kid with me and staying in this hotel was so comfortable. We cooked food, washed laundry and it was a home away from home. Metro ride to Nanjing street just costs 3 RMB per person vs 20 in the taxi. I am definitely staying here whenever I'm back in Shanghai!"

"First time stay in Putuo District in Shanghai and I decided to book a service apartment convenient for a family of 3 (parents & toddler). Experience: * 07/14 (Saturday) morning arrival: - Mgmt provided the first available cleaned & ready room (master bedroom w/ bathroom inside 2FL). - Informed that there was 2 different room configurations (1 is master bedroom,; 1 is bathroom on 1FL). - I telephoned the front desk to request for the other room configuration when available after daily guest checkout. The front desk agreed and advised my family to rest up inside the current room. - Late afternoon: Management called and informed that the new room was avail & will send a bell-hop to help move our luggage into the new room. - After indicating a concern with a bell-hop pressuring us for a tip, mgmt met with us to apologize and indicated this was not a company protocol. Tip was returned and provided a meal vouchers. * I decided to book 2 more evenings here. * TRUST - Modena (LINDA)"

"I have stayed in other hotels in Shanghai previously but this hotel I would say is the best so far in terms of location, cleanliness, helpful staff, good food served at the restaurant and also strong WiFi signal in room. This hotel so near to the Bund just 8-10 minutes walk and many shopping outlets also within walking distance with the famous Nanjing Street just a stone throw away. I will definitely stay at this hotel from now onwards. For anyone still searching for a hotel in Shanghai, I recommend this hotel without reservation. "

"Affordable place to stay if you are going to the exhibition hall nearby for business. Only problem with the hotel is that it doesn't have table and chair in case you want to check your email or use your laptop. The room is well equipped and heater in your bathroom. There is a great breakfast buffet choices daily too."

"This is a great hotel in Shanghai in which I usually stay. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. I particularly enjoy the infinity swimming pool at the top with a great view on the city. The hotel is well located as well: close to the Yu Garden, the Bund, Nanjing Road (shopping street) and Pudong. The metro station is just next to the hotel."

"There are more western owned 5 star hotels in Shanghai than I count. Hyatt (owned by Starwood) has at least 4 that I know of. There are also several other Starwood hotels in Shanghai. I have stayed in a couple of them. The Eton compares favorably with any one of them. It is just as well kept, just as luxurious, and just as comfortable as anyone could ask of a top 5-star hotel. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept on since I moved to China, and the bathroom was amazing! This was the biggest bathroom I have ever had in a hotel anywhere. The bath tub was an enormous 4 feet square (I think that is about 1.3 meters)and the rain shower was also huge. The hotel is in the business area of Pudong, but it is very close to a couple major tourist attractions for those wanting to sight see. The Oriental Pearl Tower and Super Brand Mall are about a 10 minute walk or a three minute taxi ride from the hotel, and there is also a metro station across the street from the hotel so almost anywhere in the city is just a ride away. Taxis in Shanghai are also plentiful and cheap by international standards and they can take you anywhere you will need to go for probably $6 or $7 at most. This is a great hotel and easy to find for a great price."

"This hotel is really one of the best I booked so far on Agoda! Rooms are very clean and big, with all amenities I expect from a 5-star hotel. Staff service is very friendly: on arrival the reception made me Marriott member which allowed me to get free internet during my stay, just great!!! Food was also good and all in all, I am very satisfied about this hotel. Definitely will book again next time I go to Shanghai. The only maybe negative thing is that this hotel is new, located on a street which is also new and therefore some cab drivers never heard of this street or hotel before. Best to tell them to go to DaPu Road and then turn left at end of Da Pu Road. "

"Apart from the location of the hotel, which is quite far from any amenities, the rest were great! The staff were superb, they were responsive, intuitive, and just simply perfect. The food was great too, especially the desserts. On top of that, everything in the hotel is new and well-maintained, including the very nice gym and pool. The hotel exudes luxury in all aspects. I give a thumbs up to the hotel. The sales manager, Clara, also helped us organize the meeting and ceremony perfectly. I can’t find anything to fault this hotel on, except for the location, which in my opinion cannot be helped. You choose where you stay. I gave a 5 stars for location because I just didn’t want the rating of the hotel to drop by one bit. Cheers."

"I stay in the Grand Mercure very often and it is my choice for hotel in Shanghai, mainly because of the location, next to the train station and on top of a metro. The down side is that it is a little farther away from some of the livelier areas that you may want to visit, but the taxis all know the train station so there is little confusion. Check in was smooth as always, but i noticed a girl who was being trained at the same time, which wasn't a bother, but she was left pretty much alone to check me out a few days later and messed up the bill, not her fault she should have been more closely supervised. The room size is very good, though the classic is a little small and some rooms don't have windows, so i don't think they should be selling those at all if the consider themselves a 5 star hotel, but we were given an upgrade, so mustn't grumble. The room comfort is excellent and it has everything you could wish for, housekeeping have obviously worked hard. I haven't tried the spa or gym so cant comment but breakfasts are very nice. The only downside i would have is getting a taxi, depending on who is working it seems service can differ. With 3 doormen standing outside at one stage none of them wanted to help us to get a taxi, again with 5 star rating comes 5 star expectations. though on previous attempts i have seen one doorman go the extra mile to ensure we got a taxi in the cold and wet. So i suppose it depends on who is working. Finally, they seemed to have increased their prices on Agoda, there was a sudden jump in price of about 20 per cent on average a few months ago, but nothing has changed in the hotel. This has left me looking at other hotels a bit more closely when booking now. Even though it looks like a negative review, it is only a couple of staff issues that i feel need bringing up."
