“Full of Surprises”
Not gonna lie. I was VERY NERVOUS when I saw all the reviews (between August and October) talking about the sewage smell in the toilet and was very inclined to change our booking since we were staying for 8 nights. But the number of complaints seems to have gone down since October so I decided to stick with the booking, and I am really glad I did. From the time of check-in to check-out, the staff have been incredibly helpful. The hotel uses an automated system for self check-in and check-out, but the staff were always standing by to assist and help us press the buttons when necessary. There’s a QR code that you can scan to retrieve all the hotel-related information (such as room appliances, facilities and wifi details) in your smartphone. We booked the basic deluxe double room, which did not have the massage chair that some reviewers were raving about. But to our absolute surprise, it still came with a massage cushion/pillow/contraption that you can plug in, prop it against the sofa and have a back massage with. There were also some other devices such as a facial steamer, although we did not use it. The room was reasonably spacious, and 2 large luggages can be remain open at anytime while still having sufficient walking room. The toilet and bathroom were separate, and the size of the bathtub was larger than the average Japan hotel. Bath salt sachets were always provided at the lobby (amenities counter) so you can DIY an onsen in your room anytime you want. And the sewage smell? There was none. In fact, the bathroom and toilets were squeaky clean and I have no complaints. The room itself was also scent-free. Location is fantastic - it’s less than 5 minutes walk to the hotel from Hakata Station (East Exit). If you’re coming from the JR/Shinkansen, remain at street level, cross diagonally at the scramble crossing facing the giant LED billboard on the left of Miyako Hotel (you can’t miss it… especially at night), continue heading East for one more street and make a left turn after passing the karaoke outlet. If you’re coming from the Subway Airport Line, use East Exit 7 (it has escalators/elevators unlike Exit 6) and cross the road facing North. It’s near enough to Hakata Station that we can easily head back, drop off our shopping loot and head out again shortly after. If there’s anything to feedback upon - it’ll be that there are not enough dryers in the laundry room. There are currently 2 washing machines and 2 dryers. But the washing machine completes a cycle within 0.5-1 hour, while users can hog the dryers up to 2 hours depending on the laundry load. As a result, there is always a backlog of people waiting to use the dryer after the laundry is done, especially on weekend evenings. We resorted to drying our laundry with the bathroom with the ventilator fan running (which is pretty powerful, might I add), and most of the laundry was dry by next morning. Hotel Forza II, you are one gem of a hotel. Will definitely stay here again when I’m back in Fukuoka. ❤️
