"Pro: i) Heart warming welcome from staffs - Susan who work on Club lounge (27th floors) on 17th Nov deserve the credit and everyone else too! (I'm sorry couldn't remember all names). I checked out at 1600 hrs and relax in Club lounge until 1700 hrs. I told Susan that i will need to catch a taxi to Hongqiao airport around that time during our chatting and guess what, she arranged with the concierge and make a taxi wait at main entrance! Basically it is just like -- Elevator to ground floor, walk out the building and stuff in the taxi like President of US. The wow factor is great! ii) Maintenance of the room - Decent, clean and well maintained like new. This is very important. iii) Location - Right in front of Xintiandi and all top end designer brands surrounding this hotel. iv) I have 2 luggage with me so i put one of it lying in the cabinet and the other on the floor. When i get back into the room after dinner i found my second bag sleeping nicely on new arranged luggage rack. Did i requested for it? --- NO. BUT THEY DID IT! This is truly GREAT SERVICE! Cons: i) Turn down service is good but not awesome. "Where is the chocolate?" -- Just joking. Without chocolate the service still top notch! Slipper well prepared on square white cloth, bottled water with glass prepared on each side of the side table, peppermint tea bag and teapot sit nicely at the pantry area, curtain closed, scene lighting switched to best ambient. ii) "UNREASONABLE REQUEST MAKES REASONABLE IMPROVEMENT" -- There should be remote control panel for all electronics so i don't need to walk to the side table each time. Free snacks and soft drinks which normally doesn't cost much. It impressed me even though i'm not going to consume either. I'm Gateway member and entitled to get one still didn't utilize it. I know it's not realistic but i wish staffs know my name and it will amazingly makes the service top of the world. "

"We have stayed at many Jin Jiang hotels in China, but this was our first time staying at the flagship hotel in Shanghai. We were very impressed with the quality, cleanliness, and professionalism of the staff. Booking through agoda gave us the opportunity we probably wouldn't have otherwise had to stay at this 5-star hotel because of the great value offered. Interesting to note that many famous people have stayed there previously, including Reagan, Thatcher, and Deng Xiao Ping. It was also very convenient to Metro's line 1 and within walking distance to many stops and restaurants. The staff was always very helpful in calling a taxi for us when necessary, however. The only slight negative was the fact that there are many entrances on the Jin Jiang site which can become a little confusing to new guests and taxi drivers; however, the staff was always available to guide and deliver us where we needed to go. We would definitely stay there again in the future - with agoda's help, of course!"

"We travelled as a group of four to Shanghai for the weekend and wanted to stay somewhere close to nightlife, trendy cafes and good shopping, and the Ascott provided excellence on all our criteria. After thorough research we decided to book the Ascott, because for the price we were paying we got (by far) the most room space, and similar (if not better) luxuries and location in comparison to hotels like the Langham. Although the Ascott is sometimes advertised as serviced apartments instead of a proper hotel, from my experience I could not discern the difference between the Ascott and a luxury 5-star hotel, except maybe the fact that there was no mini-bar food (but who touches the mini-bar anyway). My only criticism is that the weights selection were sub-par. We booked a two-room suite, and was surprised at how gigantic and luxurious the whole layout and deco was. The bed was soft and plush and huge, and our bathroom included baths and walk in wardrobes. Amenities were all L'Occitane. Marble bathrooms. Sparkling clean. Creative lighting. Great air-conditioning. Kitchen well stocked. Location was more than we could hope for. Famous cafes and clubs like M2 were literally just round the corner. It was wonderful to have a fun night out and know that our hotel was less than 100m away, and wake up the next morning facing a plethora of breakfast options only a 5 minute walk away. Shopping was on the expensive side, so I would not recommend staying here it you're interested in bargain shopping. The Ascott shared walls with luxury brands like Coach and faced Chloe and MCM. Services like massage centres were literally right next to the Ascott. The spa had a special deal with Ascott customers so you could get a pretty reasonable deal for a massage, considering the luxurious location that you're in. Arriving early morning on the Beijing to Shanghai train, we were generously allowed an early check in (for free!) as well as a late check out (also free). Very accommodating. We"

"Okura Hotel stands out because of its staff . There are many five star hotels in Shanghai but their staff may not provide service which are comparable to the best . Our experience of staying in Okura makes us appreciate dedicated, sensitive and caring staff . When things go wrong the management is immediate at problem solving . We did not have to wait or get frustrated with our problems . Hotel facilities in all five star hotels in Shanghai are really good . However , if you want a hotel which looks after you throughout your stay and assist you with unexpected problems Okura fits the bill . We have stayed in Shanghai on and off for five years and tested quite a number of hotels ."

"Our first time in Shanghai so all very new, but this hotel ticked most of the boxes, fantastic location for sight seeing with easy access to 3 metro stations, in easy walking distance to a variety of food places for breakfast or evening meals. Staff were friendly and generally helpful, but many with limited English. Approximately 50 minutes from Pudong Airport and about 280 RMB.++ These times and prices vary greatly depending on traffic, but are representative of a fairly good run... located very close to/on top of Shaanxi Rd Metro. Downsides.... limited food services, but room service looks OK, hotel appears to run a air heating/air cooling policy which is a little baffling...in Summer air conditioning/Cooling available in winter only heating... we were there during the change over... so somewhat surprised when we could no longer cool our room! Our room had external windows, so these were opened to help cool things down to our liking! Internet seemed OK, but no Google challenging "

"This is not the first time I stayed in this hotel and I has always loved how it is structured - You need to take some little golf cars to transfer between the buildings while admiring the elegant garden (rare scene in downtown Shanghai) and historical building. Breakfast selection is great and the staff are friendly and flexible. The only problem I had was that the room was too hot with the heating - and although I have lower it and change it to cooling, I still woke up every morning sweating and kicking away the duvets. . . it should be the central heating that was way to high and not changeable manually as I have voiced this issue out but nothing changed - at the end I just open the window at night for sleeping . . .
